The Apartment - A Mystery

The apartment wasn’t well kept. There was some sort of pungent smell coming from the corner room. It seemed as if, for a long time there had not been any habitation. Everything else was ok there, i.e. the sofa, the lamp and the book shelf. There was a spiral stair exactly in the middle of the drawing room which led to two other rooms and a small library upstairs. In one of the room upstairs there was family photograph in a bright golden frame. Few clothes were lying on the floor and a bottle of country wine too was spilt over there, although the reason was unknown. The windows were wide open, through which a huge ebony tree was clearly visible.

While Jishnu continued describing the house, I heard the doorbell ringing. Opening the door, I found a well-dressed, middle aged gentleman, wanting to come inside eagerly. Jishnu gave him a glass of water and then we asked him what the matter was. He for a few moments gave Jishnu and I a queer look and then spoke up,” I know… I know, both of you might feel weird about the thing I want to say but that’s the truth “. Jishnu and I were getting anxious and so we both said,” We trust your words Sir!”. The man said,” I am sorry, I forgot to introduce myself, my name is Dr. Bhupati; I need your help regarding the apartment which has been deserted for almost 50 years now. The apartment I am talking about is the one Jishnu was describing to you, Mr. Arth. I have heard a lot about you both regarding the cases you have solved”. Both of us were perplexed after hearing our names from this man’s mouth and also were shocked about the thing ,that how did Dr Bhupati get to know that Jishnu was describing the apartment. We did not speak anything but nodded instead. He continued,” Everybody says that the place radiates negatives vibes, but I have lived there for ten months last year and believe me I could not experience any such vibes. The reason I had to leave that house was because I had to move to Rishikesh due to some urgent work. I am quite sure that by now you have already started your investigation.” He then looked into his watch and said,” I am sorry gentlemen, I gotta go now; here’s my card, contact me if in any way I can help you out.“ Jishnu and I, then moved on to his case studying table where a poster board was hanging and on it pictures of his suspects were pinned.

Next morning at sharp 8 am, Jishnu and I along with our Dslr Camera, journal and his Key-pen(a pen which can be used to write and can also be transformed into a key which can open any sort of lock) set out to the location, i.e., the deserted apartment. It was in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand which was 34 kilometers from our residence (Dehradun, Uttarakhand). We were half the way when we saw Dr. Bhupati. Jishnu stopped the car and asked Dr. Bhupati to take a seat. After a complete journey of 1 hour 10 minutes we finally reached our destination. Dr Bhupati got down the car and said, “Oh! I didn’t realize we would actually reach ‘This Place’.” A sudden darkness grew upon his face and his pupils were dilated as he stared at the apartment. The main entrance gate of the apartment was huge. The apartment too was enormous as of my expectation.

To be continued...

Thank You!
